Website, Online Store, or Booking System — Which Should You Choose?
We build websites, online stores, and booking systems for Latvian businesses — from the first consultation through to launch. But which of the three solutions fits your business? A short guide.
90% of consumers research online before making a purchase. Without a digital presence, a business simply isn't visible at exactly that moment of research. But not every business needs the same solution — a website, an online store, and a booking system each solve a different problem.
This guide will help you figure out which solution (or combination of solutions) fits your business, before you start planning the build.
When you need a website
A website is the foundation — a digital business card that tells people who you are, what you offer, and how to reach you. It suits practically any business, regardless of industry, and is the first step before thinking about more complex features.
A website is the right choice if the main goal is trust and visibility — potential clients need to find basic information, your range of services, contact details, and ideally, examples of past work. If the business doesn't sell goods online or take bookings, a website is usually enough.
When you need an online store
An online store becomes necessary as soon as a business sells physical or digital goods and wants orders, payments, and delivery to happen automatically, without manual intervention at every step.
Unlike a website, an online store needs a product catalog with filters and search, a shopping cart, payment integration (for example, Stripe, PayPal, Swedbank, or SEB), and a connection to shipping providers (Omniva, DPD, UPS). That means a larger technical scope, but also the ability to sell around the clock without the overhead of a physical store.
When you need a booking system
A booking system suits businesses that sell time or a space rather than a product — accommodation, outdoor activity providers, beauty services, consultations. The main problem it solves is availability management: a calendar that updates automatically and prevents double bookings.
A good booking system includes an availability calendar, automatic confirmations and reminders, and often payment collection at the moment of booking. If a business has multiple properties or rental units, the system can manage all of them from one shared inventory.
Three solutions — a summary
Website
A digital business card. Suits almost any business as a first step.
Online Store
Selling products with automated payment and delivery.
Booking System
Selling time or space with automatic availability management.
These solutions aren't mutually exclusive — for many businesses, a combination works best, such as a website with a built-in booking system, as implemented in several Westtro projects as well.
How the collaboration works
Regardless of which solution you choose, the process is the same:
Consultation and needs assessment
Proposal preparation
Design development and approval
Development
Testing and launch
Training and support
Conclusion
Before choosing a solution, identify the main problem you want to solve — visibility, sales, or booking management. That determines whether you need a website, an online store, a booking system, or a combination.
